THE GREAT PARK Stephen Burch was born in the south of England, but spent most of his early life traveling around before his family settled in rural Ireland. On their farm is an old abandoned cottage, nearly collapsed but with one room dry and warm enough to make music in. In 2009 The Great Park played over 150 concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy and England. Nine albums are available on Woodland Recordings - and a 10th is due this year. (Stephen Burch wurde im Süden von England geboren, verbrachte jedoch den größten Teil seines frühen Lebens damit, herum zu reisen, bevor seine Familie sich im ländlichen Irland niederließ. Auf ihrer Farm steht eine verlassene Hütte, die beinahe in sich zusammenfällt, aber ein Zimmer birgt, das trocken und warm genug ist, um Musik darin zu machen. Eine klassische Akkustikgitarre und das Klavier der Familie, Bürsten, Töpfe und Metallketten. Bilder von Feldern, Bauernhäusern, Tieren, Verfolgung und Flucht -- Charaktere erscheinen und tauchen an verschiedenen Orten wieder auf -- dichte Reiselieder -- die einenden Motive sind die von todernstem Drama und Möglichkeiten innerhalb des 'Great Park'. 2009 spielte The Great Park über 150 Konzerte in Deutschland, der Schweiz, Dänemark, Italien und England. WOODPECKER WOOLIAMS A resident of Brighton, a keeper of bees, a watcher of badgers, a lover of Russian Dolls and a part-time shaman, Gemma took to music after her study as a midwife had to be put on hold when a mystery illness threatened her health. A wintertime move to the Devonshire countryside to revitalize was called for and Woodpecker Wooliams was hatched. After a live slot on BBC radio Devon and airplay courtesy of BBC 6’s Tom Robinson and Stuart Marconie, Woodpecker Woolliams is quickly working her way around Brighton and London's venues. After completing her debut album Diving Down last summer, (released on Autumn Ferment Records) she is currently polishing off two new releases for this year: A double A-side cassette tape exploring sleeping women in myth on new London-based publishing house My Dance The Skull, and a limited edition EP for release in Italy this summer with the Woolshop Productions. Expect sweat, harps, bells, tape noise and sellotape. She’s delighted to be getting involved with Woodland Recordings, who she says are one of her original inspirations… (Als Bewohnerin von Brighton, Bienenhüterin, Dachsbeobachterin, Liebhaberin von Matrjoschkas und Halbzeitschamanin wandte sich Gemma der Musik zu, nachdem ihre Ausbildung zur Hebamme wegen einer mysteriösen Krankheit, die ihre Gesundheit bedrohte, auf Eis gelegt werden musste. Ein Winterzeit-Umzug in die Landschaft von Devonshire zur Wiederbelebung stand auf dem Programm und Woodpecker Wooliams war ausgebrütet. Nach einem Live-Auftritt auf BBC Radio Devon und von Tom Robinson und Stuart Marconie von BBC 6 ausgestrahlten Aufnahmen arbeitet sich "Woodpecker Wooliams" nun rasch ihren Weg durch die Konzertsäle von Brighton und London. FEE REEGA Fee Reega was born in the south of Germany in 1988 and grew up in small and smaller villages playing chess with old men and working in her father's bookshop. She went to Berlin in 2007, where she lives, studies and makes music. In 2009 she started to play concerts, recorded her first EP "Du willst kein Bettler sein und ich keine Heilige" at home and released it on Woodland Recordings. One more EP ("Verstand der Dinge") followed later in the year and in 2010 she released her third CD "Herr Keine Beine". Since last year she has played about fifty concerts - mostly in Germany but also in England and Denmark. The individual and artistic packaging of the CDs is a big part in the presentation of Fee's music and as she does nearly all of it herself they have got her fingerprints all over them. Her German songs tell about feelings she used to have, wants to have, probably will have soon, or imagines one could have. (Fee Reega wurde 1988 in Süddeutschland geboren und wuchs in kleinen und kleineren Dörfern und Städten auf wo sie mit alten Männern Schach spielte und im Buchladen ihres Vaters arbeitete. 2007 ging sie nach Berlin, wo sie seitdem lebt, studiert und Musik macht. 2009 fing sie an, Konzerte zu spielen, nahm zu Hause ihre erste EP "Du willst kein Bettler sein und ich keine Heilige" auf und veröffentlichte sie auf Woodland Recordings. Im selben Jahr folgte eine weitere EP ("Verstand der Dinge") und Anfang 2010 veröffentlichte sie ihre dritte CD "Herr Keine Beine". Seit dem letzten Jahr hat sie ungefähr fünfzig Konzerte gespielt - hauptsächlich in Deutschland aber auch in England und Dänemark. Die individuelle und künstlerische Verpackung der CDs sind ein großer Teil der Präsentation von Fees Musik und da sie fast alles davon selbst macht, sind ihre Fingerabdrücke überall auf ihnen. THIRTY POUNDS OF BONE Thirty pounds of bone is the project of multi instrumentalist johny lamb. He is the maker of folk songs concerning love, the sea, drink, migrancy, whaling, nostalgia, loss and murder, combining often delicate music with a brutalist lyrical streak. The sound is rooted in british and irish tradtion but defiantly contemporary and embracing non traditional forms, earning frequent comparison to The Pogues, Nick Cave and Sparklehorse. Having made one critically acclaimed album (“The Homesick Children of Migrant Mothers”), he releases his new ep, a collection of shanties and whaling songs entitled: “and they go down to it in ships…” on Woodland Recordings. (Thirty Pounds Of Bone (Dreißig Kilo Knochen) ist das Projekt des Multiinstrumentalisten Johny Lamb. Er ist der Schöpfer von Folksongs über Liebe, das Meer, Trunk, Migration, Walfang, Nostalgie, Verlust und Mord, wobei er oft zarte Musik mit einer brutalen lyrischen Spur kombiniert. Der Klang wurzelt in britischer und irischer Tradition, ist zugleich aber aufsässig zeitgemäß und bezieht nicht traditionelle Formen mit ein, wodurch er sich häufige Vergleiche mit The Pogues, Nick Cave und Sparklehorse verdient hat. BIRDENGINE Birdengine is the name Lawry Joseph Tilbury makes music under. His haunting melodies and dark lyrics take the listener to another realm, a unique place where kings are trapped in glass jars, feral children run amok and dead mermaids litter the sea shore. Live, Tilbury accompanies his truly unique voice with purposefully plucked nylon guitar and record crackle. Birdengine first released an ep in 2005 on Scottish label Benbecula Records, described as the first relevant work in freak folktronica it was an experimental affair, he then went on to record the mini-album ‘I fed thee rabbit water’ released on Drift Records in 2007. He is currently putting the finishing touches to his first full length release. Expect goodness. (Birdengine ist der Name, unter dem Lawry Joseph Tilbury Musik macht. Seine gespenstischen Melodien und dunklen Texte nehmen den Hörer mit in ein anderes Reich, einen einzigartigen Ort, an dem Könige in Glasgefäßen gefangen sind, barbarische Kinder Amok laufen und tote Seejungfrauen das Meerufer übersäen. Auf der Bühne begleitet Tilbury seine wahrhaft einmalige Stimme mit gezielt gezupfter Nylongitarre und Schallplatten-Geknister. MUTE SWIMMER Mute Swimmer was born in the imaginings of Brighton based songwriter and visual artist Guy Dale. After first coming to prominence at Brighton’s renowned Bleeding Hearts Club he went on to the album, Treehouse, under his own name and two E.P’s with the four-piece group Funés who established a reputation as a formidable live act. Dale began recording as Mute Swimmer in 2007. His are bare, tantalisingly confessional songs that draw from elements of folk, minimalism and post-rock in a way that resists easy categorization. Uniquely for a songwriter he often takes the process of writing and the moment of performance itself as a subject and in doing so joyously upends some of the conventions associated with the form. By rapid turns melancholy, ironic and romantic his work is something that truly comes to life in the intimacy and immediacy of live performance. (Mute Swimmer wurde in den Vorstellungen des in Brighton ansässigen Songwriters und bildenden Künstlers Guy Dale geboren. Nachdem er zuerst in Brightons renommiertem Bleeding Hearts Club Bekanntheit erlangt hatte, nahm er das Album Treehouse unter seinem eigenen Namen auf und veröffentlichte dann zwei EPs mit der vierköpfigen Gruppe Funés, die sich einen Ruf als beeindruckende Liveband machten. BLANKET Blanket are Vicky Steer, Stephen Burch and occaisionly and happily Laurence Collyer. Vicky would like a soapbox and a serious audience. Sentences are constructed with words. The words are trip hazards and conduits, padding, feet, faff and fluff, cobbled without artifice into configurations that at the very least stand up and at very best stand up whilst leaning precariously. Often the themes are grand but the attention to detail painful, the collapse of a clothes rail and having to live with the aftermath, the simplest objects are made into mountains. Blanket have previously released a 7" single on Big Billy Records, a limited CDR EP on Woodland Recordings, a split cassette tape with Shimmy Rivers And Canal And Canal on Undereducated Music and were included in the second Stolen Recordings compilation. They have an album available on Try Harder records. Laurence and Stephen are also involved in seperate musical projects; The Diamond Family Archive and The Great Park - both on Woodland Recordings.
